Texas billionaire, R. Allen Stanford is the latest swindler accused of bilking investors out of billions of dollars. Stanford is under investigation for $8 billion in fraud. Two months ago Bernard Madoff was accused of bilking investors out of as much $50 billion in a massive ponsi scheme

Stanford who controls Stanford Financial is accused of perpetrating an $8 billion investment fraud?offering investors?unrealistic returns in certificate of deposit products offered through Stanford Financial.

The fraud allegations may have a direct impact on the PGA, LPGA and PGA Tour player Vijay Singh.

Just last month, Sing signed a three year endorsement deal with Stanford Financial, featuring the Stanford logo on his hat, apparel and golf bag.

Stanford financial also is a major sponsor of the PGA Tour`s St. Judes Financial Tour and of the LPGA Stanford Financial Tour. It is not immediately know of what will happen to the sponsorship of these events and whether any money paid by the Stanford Financial group would have to be given back.

Stanford Financial is a major sports sponsors of professional and collegiate sports, including golf, tennis, basketball and cricket.

Like Madoff, Stanford his high profile and reputation coupled with promise of high returns to lure in unsuspecting investors who now stand to lose significant amounts of money. Unlike Madoff`s investors who were investing in stock market type investments, Stanford`s investors were putting money into certificate of deposits, one of the safest places to deposit money and carrying $250,000 FDIC guarantees. The investment vehicle is used by individuals looking for higher returns then they can get in a savings account.

The year 2007 ushered in the inaugural Stanford St. Jude Championship as Stanford Financial Group assumed title sponsorship of the Memphis PGA TOUR stop. The first two years with Stanford at the helm were a success by all accounts. The fields of play were the strongest in the tournament’s recent history, including participation in 2008 by reigning Masters Champion Trevor Immelman and reigning winner of the Players Championship, Sergio Garcia. Stanford is further expanding its presence in golf by becoming the new title sponsor of the LPGA’s Tour Championship. Putt.com has learned that Tiger Woods will be calling it quits at the end of the 2009 season.

While he missed playing golf during his eight month layoff recovering from knee surgery, he enjoyed the opportunity to spend time with his wife Elin, daughter Sam Alexi and newborn Charlie Axel. Being away from his family the past month Tiger realized that he missed the time away from Elin and the kids more then he missed the strenuous demands of the game.

A Wie Bit Short! Stanford Holds off Wie to Win SBS Open

Angela Stanford held of Michelle Wie in Saturday's final round to win the 2009 SBS Open at Turtle Bay by three-strokes.

Wie managed only two birdies on the day which coupled with a double bogey in the par-4 eleventh hole cost her a chance at winning. Stanford shot off three consecutive birdies starting with the thirteenth hole, finishing with four birdies and two bogey's on the day for a 2-under 70 on the day and a 10-under 206 and a three stroke victory.

With the exception of Michelle Wie having pulled off the victory, the start to the 2009 LPGA season couldn't have gotten off to a better start. Wie solid performance will create alot of buzz for the former child prodigy as will the solid performance of LPGA Tour rookies Vicky Hurst and Stacy Lewis.

Although Hurst and Lewis both stumbled on the day's final round, the played well enough through the first two rounds to show why they are so highly regarded coming into their rookie seasons on the tour. Hurst dropped from fifth place through two rounds to finish in fifteenth place after carding five bogey's and finishing at an even-par 216 for the tournament. Lewis dropped from fifth place through two rounds to finish in a four way tie for twentieth place with a 1-over 217 for the tournament. Lewis had four bogeys and a double-bogey on the day.

Yani Tseng, the second highest ranked female golfer in the world behind Lorena Ochoa, finished with a 2-under for the tournament for a fifth place finish.

Natalie Gulbis, starts 2009 season with a top 10 finish, with a 1-under for the tournament finishing in a four way tie for tenth place on the leaderboard.

Paula Creamer finished at an even-par for the tournament for a fifteenth place finish.

With these top names getting off to a strong start, the LPGA change some of the negative momentum leading up to the start of the season after losing several sponsors for tournaments because of the ailing economy.

Q-school might have done Michelle Wie some good, as she is off to a great start to the 2009 LPGA Tour season. Wie shot a 2-under 70 on the day to tie round one leader Angela Standord through two rounds at the SBS Open at Turtle Bay.

Wie birdied three consecutive holes for the second straight day and goes into Saturday's final round in position not only to win the tournament but to wipe out some of the demons of the past couple years.

Stanford had a clean second round but managed only one birdie on the day to finish with a 1-under 71, giving up her first round, one stroke lead to Wie.

Angela Park is one stroke back of Wie and Stanford, finishing with a 4-under 68 on the day.

Wie is not the only LPGA rookie gettign off to a quick start. Vicky Hurst, one-under 71 on the day and Stacy Lewis, 2-under on the day, are five strokes back of the leaders with a 3-under through two rounds. Hurst and Lewis are in a fifth place tie with the women's second ranked golfer, Yani Tseng.

Tseng had a rough second round, carding a double-bogey on the par-4 10th hole and two bogeys on the day, finishing with a 3-over 75 on the day.

Johnson Leads, Harrington and Singh Cut at Pebble Beach

Dustin Johnson`s six birdies on the day, including four consecutive birdies on the ninth through twelfth holes, finishing with a 5-under 67 on the day and 15-under 201, for a four-stroke lead over Canadian Mike Weir, through three rounds of play at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.

?Johnson`s bogey on the eight hole was only his second bogey through three rounds at Pebble Beach, with his other bogey coming in yesterday`s second round where he double-bogeyed the par-4 seventeenth hole.

Round two leader, Retief Goosen couldn`t come close to matching yesterday`s eagle and seven birdie performance, carding a 2-over 74 and dropping to third place and five-strokes off the lead. Goosen`s four-bogey`s on the day equalled his total birdie count in the first two rounds.

Charley Hoffman, matched Goosen`s 2-over 74 on the day. Hoffman had six bogeys on the day and drops from the third spot on the leaderboard to a nine way tie for thirtheenth place at 6-under 210.

Kenny Perry is looking to pick up where he left off after winning the FBR Open two weeks ago, in his quest for twenty career wins on the PGA Tour. Perry had four birdies and a clean round for a 4-under 68 and 7-under 209 through three rounds.

Padraig Harrington and Vijay Singh, the third and fourth ranked golfers in the world respectively, both failed to make the final cut after today`s third round. Harrington had three birdies and two bogey`s on the day to finish with a 1-under on the day and 2-over on the tournament. Harrington failed two make the cut by foru strokes.

Singh, in his first tournament back since knee surgery, should have taken another week to rest, as he failed to break par through three rounds and failed to make the cut by eight strokes.

All wasn`t bad for the the top ranked golfers as Phil Mickelson, ranked fifth in the world, just made the cut at 2-under through three rounds. Mickelson played well on the day, with six birdies, including three consecutive birdies on the first three holes. Mickelson finished with a 1-under on the day and didn`t fair better mostly because of a double-bogey on the par-3 twelfth hole.

An eagle, seven birdies and a Goosen equals two shot lead after two rounds at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. Retief Goosen dominated the filed today shootomg 5 shots better then his his nearest competitor with an 8-under 64 on the day. To lead round one co-leader Dustin Johnson by two strokes.

Johnson had five birdies on the day, but his bogey on the par-4 17th hole cost him the opportunity to retain his first round lead.

Three of the top five golfers in the world are participating in this weekend`s event and they look more like amateurs participating in the event then the top ranked golfers in the world that they are, with all three failing two make the cut.

Padraig Harrington (#3 ranking) shot a 1-over on the day and finished with 3-over through two rounds, Harrington had four bogey`s and three birdies on the day.

Vijay Singh (#4 ranking) shot a 3-over on the day and match Harrington`s 3-over through two rounds. Singh only managed one birdy on the day while carding five bogeys.

Phil Mickelson (#5 ranking) shot a 1-under 71 on the day after shooting an even-par in Thursday`s first round, falling one shot short of making the cut.

Yani Tseng, the second highest ranked female golfer in the world behind Lorena Ochoa, finished with a 2-under for the tournament for a fifth place finish.

Natalie Gulbis, starts 2009 season with a top 10 finish, with a 1-under for the tournament finishing in a four way tie for tenth place on the leaderboard.

Paula Creamer finished at an even-par for the tournament for a fifteenth place finish.

Padraig Harrington (#3 ranking) shot a 1-over on the day and finished with 3-over through two rounds, Harrington had four bogey`s and three birdies on the day.

Vijay Singh (#4 ranking) shot a 3-over on the day and match Harrington`s 3-over through two rounds. Singh only managed one birdy on the day while carding five bogeys.

Phil Mickelson (#5 ranking) shot a 1-under 71 on the day after shooting an even-par in Thursday`s first round, falling one shot short of making the cut.
